You're all set, you've got your best suit on, printed copies of your CV, you're all prepared. Your interviewer kicks off with "So, tell me what you know about our company?". You're hot under the collar because while you were practising for a competency-based interview, you forgot to delve into your company research.
Let's go over some must-do's in preparation for your interview;
1. Company mission, morals, values or statement.
One of the first things your new company will teach you about are their morals, so knowing this at an interview stage is sure to impress. Most companies have a mission statement in place to project their goals to their employees and the general public, so finding out what it is could give you an overall picture of what they work toward.
Have a look into this by digging around on the company website. Most companies will usually have an 'about' page.
Also try having a look at a Linkedin or Glassdoor page- these kind of websites usually get employee's involved, giving you a greater understanding of how you would fit in to the organisation.
2. Company history & plans.
Keep up to date with what your prospective company are doing. Reguarly check their website and read their news/blogs. You could also sign up for Google Alerts, setting it to let you know whenever a new article is placed on the web about the company.
Learning a bit of company history can't do any harm- do your research on the company website, or check reliable web sources (not Wikipedia)!
3. Key persons
Find out who your potential bosses would be. Use the company website and Linkedin to find out who the Founders are and if you have a good enough memory, try to remember their names.
It would help to find out beforehand, if you don't already know, who is interviewing you and what their responsibilities are, too.
And that's it! Dig around and have a bit of each of the above prepared. Your potential employer wants to know that you WANT to work for their company, and nothing will say that more than showing the effort you have gone to.
